This year marked the debut of the Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium Rheinfelden’s Debating Club in the Junior League of the Debating Society Germany—and what a promising start it was! In our very first year, our team achieved a balanced record of wins and losses, placing 18th out of more than 30 schools across the country.
Our achievement is all the more impressive considering we competed against many schools with significantly more experience in debating. Yet our students rose to the challenge and left a strong impression.
We are particularly proud of our top speaker, Amira R., who placed 16th among over 150 participants from across Germany. Her performance puts her among the very best young debaters in the nation. Two more of our students also ranked in the Top 50: Simon K. at 27th place, and Matti K. at 37th—a remarkable accomplishment for a first-year team.
As we look to the future, our club is already preparing for next year’s competitions. We are currently planning training debates with schools from around our region and throughout Baden-Württemberg. Our club meetings are held every Friday after 6th period, under the guidance of Marc Christoph, and we warmly welcome new members who are interested in joining the world of competitive debating.

Ein starkes erstes Jahr für unseren Debattierclub
Im Schuljahr 2024/2025 nahm das Georg-Büchner-Gymnasium Rheinfelden erstmals an der Junior League der Debating Society Germany teil – und das mit großem Erfolg! Unser Team erreichte eine ausgeglichene Bilanz aus Siegen und Niederlagen und belegte insgesamt den 18. Platz unter zahlreichen teilnehmenden Schulen aus ganz Deutschland.
Besonders stolz sind wir auf unsere beste Sprecherin Amira R., die es unter die Top 20 Redner*innen des Wettbewerbs schaffte. Auch Simon K. (Platz 27) und Matti K. (Platz 37) gehörten zu den besten 50 Einzelredner*innen – eine beeindruckende Leistung für ein Team im ersten Jahr.
Die Konkurrenz bestand zu großen Teilen aus Schulen mit deutlich mehr Debattiererfahrung, was unsere Platzierung umso bemerkenswerter macht. Für das kommende Schuljahr plant unser Club bereits Trainingsdebatten mit anderen Schulen aus der Region und ganz Baden-Württemberg.
Die AG findet jeden Freitag nach der 6. Stunde unter der Leitung von Marc Christoph statt und freut sich über neue Mitglieder, die Lust haben, das Debattieren auszuprobieren und ihre rhetorischen Fähigkeiten weiterzuentwickeln.
